Social campaigns have been appearing quite regularly for several years to make us realize how valuable but risky the Internet is. Nobody's Children Foundation bends over the problem of pedophilia taking its toll over a computer network. They already have 5 social campaigns:

  • "You never know who's on the other side" lasting from February to June 2004. The action was devoted to the problem of child seduction on the Internet and began a discussion in Poland about this problem. This campaign was recognized by the weekly "Przekrój" as one of the 20 ads that shocked Poland. An interesting fact is that in 2008 it was adapted by Latvia, Albania and Bulgaria.
  • "The Internet is a window to the world. The whole world." carried out in 2006, 2007 and from April until the end of June 2009. The campaign is devoted to the problem of children's contacts with dangerous content on the web. This campaign has won national and international recognition, receiving awards including at the Golden Eagles 2006, Advertising Creators Club in 2007, Golden Drum 2007 and the 55th Cannes Lions Festival (Bronze Lion in the Film Lions category and audience award).
  • "Stop cyberbullying" lasting from January to February 2008. The action drew attention to the problem of peer violence using electronic media.
  • "Every Internet traffic leaves a trail" conducted from June to October 2010. The goal of the campaign was to make the perpetrators aware of them, including the potential ones, that by seducing children on the Internet they commit a crime. The campaign was to draw attention to one more important issue in online child-adult relations - regardless of the child's behavior in such a relationship, responsibility always lies with the adult.
  • "Promotion of online security" promoted in February 2011, mainly in the Coccodrillo chain of stores. The aim of the campaign was to draw parents' attention to the threats that children have or may have contact with on the Internet. The campaign's goal was also to convince parents that the consistent application of a few simple rules could increase children's online safety.
  • Another, sixth social campaign has started this summer "Think before you put it in." This time, however, it is directed only at adults. It aims to draw attention to the pictures that we "throw" to the Internet every day. To a large extent, these are pictures of our children who seem absolutely safe or even sweet to us. On the other hand, they are used not only by pedophiles but also by criminals.

Nobody wonders on the further fate of photos. Everyone thinks that only shares them with friends. Meanwhile, each of them has several hundred other people among their contacts. Anyone can download a photo from the Internet and in this way they start living their own lives. In effect the child's image may fall into the hands of unauthorized persons and places, in which we would not like to see him. In addition, every photo after many years can be found on the Internet by malicious colleagues - and at the least appropriate moment.

Why is the topic so important? The popularity of social networking sites is so huge that the risk increases every day. Hardly anyone bothers to "bury" in the privacy settings of their own account. Just go to any page, be it Facebook, NK, Twitter or Goldenline, then enter any name in the search engine, and people and their profiles will appear. How many of these profiles provide all information about themselves, all photo albums, activities or relationship status information? The photographs show everything - what lifestyle we lead, what family we have, how many friends, and even what property we have. Many people boast of new cars, motorbikes, sports equipment, well-equipped gardens, etc.

Nobody defends us, but it's worth considering the whole world must see these photos and this information? I will only mention that you can find many cases when an employee went to L4 due to a serious illness, and the employer a week later saw photos of his employee's tropical vacation, just on one of the social networks. How many situations were publicized in the media when an employee lost his job due to disclosure of sexual orientation on the portal, placing a "politically incorrect" photo in a private profile?

Some will say stupidity, others - carelessness. Or maybe just such situations should make us think about WHO and WHAT we want to reveal about ourselves? We can, after all, group friends on close and distant ones and limit the visibility of our private data or photos to people with whom we have less contact, and share current events and experiences only with loved ones. It is neither difficult nor paid. Maybe just a little time consuming. But isn't our and our family's security worth the 2 or 3 hours spent organizing your privacy online?
