As experienced designers, I now suggest a real test. We will try to combine the elements learned so far and ways of creating folk, creatures, animals and furniture. Namely, we will create our own unique THEATER. We will also make other elements of school layette, decorations for our desk, table or children's room walls. It will be a kind of summary of the existing play cycle with imagination.

Demand and performance:

  • a large cardboard box, preferably after TV. If we do not have 2-3 smaller
  • scissors, adhesive tape, string / shoelace
  • marker, paints, markers, pencil
  • double-sided tape or 2 flat pins, or a stapler
  • a piece of material (e.g. an old T-shirt) or a larger size newspaper.

If we have 1 large cardboard box "after TV", then the matter is more than trivial. A more difficult task awaits us if we have smaller boxes. I recommend going to any electronics or household appliances store in the area. There, we can easily get a large cardboard box (usually from the exhibition equipment).

STAGE: From cardboard we need 4 side walls and 1 large (unfortunately the side is the best, as the surface without wings and folds). We cut the required size in a large hole (it would be best not to exceed 70 - 80% of the total area). On the inside from two sides we install the string. If we fasten with tacks, remember to knock them in hard enough that the child does not remove them. We can also use double-sided tape for this purpose. Here, make sure that the straps are slightly larger to cover about 3-4 cm of string. If you put on a two-part curtain, you can still stick the string in the middle. If we do not have a large cardboard box, we must combine the longest possible pieces from the cardboard boxes into one border. For this you have to earn some extra money and attach the sides to make our theater stable. We can strengthen the structure with skewers or small slats.

CURTAIN: If we have material, we either make holes in it every centimeters and thread the string with the basting stitch (I specially googled the name for those who know more on stitches), or create a tunnel for the string. We create the tunnel by placing the material and gluing it with double-sided tape, or stapling it every few centimeters. If we do not have material, we will use a newspaper to make the curtain. To do this, first fold the string on the long side, then fold it along the harmonica (do you remember how you made fans in your youth? This is the same method.) After folding, gently weave the string into the fold, fix it and we have a beautifully folding curtain!

We can say that the theater is ready. We have a stage and a curtain. All we need is actors and set design. For the latter, let's use the methods from earlier articles. Let's create actors just like in a farm or station, they can be on sticks or like the animals mentioned on the "stands". It is best to make props geometric mesh method. They will allow you to create mobile furniture.

There is still the matter of decorating. We can use material, newspapers, paints, markers, markers, whatever we can get our hands on. We can decorate not only the stage, but also the curtain, naturally actors and set design, but also create a proscenium, e.g. with trees, to make the effect three-dimensional.
After finishing our work, we begin to invent fairy tales, stories of strange content and uncreated stories. Good luck and have fun!

School bag

Demand and execution

  • Any material (large sheet or many smaller ones) - I suggest a t-shirt.
  • Twine, shoelace or drawstring from an old sweatshirt
  • Beads, patch, cut-out stripe or drawing from old clothes (t-shirt, skirt, sweatshirt, etc.)
  • Needle, thread, scissors

The sack everyone knows. Making it is as easy as it is cheap. With a large sheet of material, the task is easy. We cut off the sleeves along the seam and horizontally at chest height (marked with the letter "a" on the design), creating a finished sheet of the bag. If you have your own shirt or your Husband's / Partner's shirt, we cut off under the arms (according to the project, the letter "b").

Scroll everything to the left. We treat the top of the T-shirt as the bottom of the bag (it has a much uglier finish, which after sewing will not be seen), sew tightly. Finish the bottom of the shirt with a width of approx. 1 - 1.5 cm before placing the string (the ends of the string should be placed on the side of the shirt. We sew the whole strip with the string inside. After reaching the place where the string has its ends with scissors we make a hole and we pull the ends out We drag the whole sack to the right. We already have a sack with straps protruding from the side. If we prefer that the sack does not have 2 strings and one closed loop we can tie the ends with a knot and hide it in the formed slat.

Now just thread the bead on a string to decorate it, you can sew on the sack an old pattern or drawing from another shirt (before cutting it out exactly) creating a kind of patch. I leave the field for you to decorate.

MUG for felt-tip pens, pencils and pens

Demand and execution

  • Can (peas, corn, tomatoes, etc.)
  • Markers, plasticine, colored paper markers - to choose
  • Beads, sequins, buttons, etc. - to choose

First we must prepare a can for our child. Wash it thoroughly by removing the label. In place of the removed lid with a knife we remove sharp edges (for a more accurate effect we can additionally use a file). We begin to decorate the can prepared in this way. And that's all.

As a decoration, we can also use a piece of an old sleeve. It is important that it fits the can, i.e. it is not too wide (narrower can be stretched). Sew the cut off fragment (as if pulling the seam inside). Slide the can into the sock thus created. The best part is that the edge of the sleeve is already trimmed, so it's over! Just remember to cut a good length of the sleeve. At the end we can tie a tin decorated with it, e.g. with a ribbon.

Demand and execution

  • Cardboard, bristol or cardboard
  • Colored paper
  • Glue, scissors, a ruler

First, cut out the desired shape and size of the frame in bristol (or other rigid paper that we have) in duplicate. In one of them we cut out the center of the size of the selected photo by subtracting 2mm from each side (i.e. if we choose a 9x13cm picture, the hole is cut out by 8.6 x 12.6cm). We glue the picture onto the cut Bristol board without the hole. One side of the bristol with the hole is glued with glue and applied to the already created frame.
It remains a matter of the rack. Fold the cardboard strip into a triangle, gluing together. One of the sides of the triangle is glued to the back of the frame, so as to allow the whole stable standing on the countertop.

FRAME for the wall

Demand and execution

  • Cardboard, bristol or cardboard
  • Colored paper, it can also be a white sheet and coloring instruments
  • Ribbon, possibly a thread
  • Glue, scissors, a ruler

The frame is made identically as in the first paragraph of the standing frame. The difference is the hanging system, which we can do in 2 ways:

The classic and easiest way: on the adhesive tape attach two ends of the ribbon to the back of the frame (according to the design). We hang, ready. We can decorate our ribbon slightly (especially if it is a thread) by creating a knot every centimeters or by fixing, for example, a small bead. Then it is worth ensuring a slightly stronger fastening of the ribbon / thread on the frame. We can help by gently cutting the back of the frame (at the stage of its creation) and thread the ends of the thread, fixing them twice (first gluing two layers of the frame together, the second time taping the cut). However, in this case, we start by decorating the thread, because then any changes will no longer be possible.

The second method looks best if we make two or more frames at the same time. Then the ribbons work best (if we do not have them, and we have several gift bags "on sale", we can take the handles and beautiful, decorative ribbons we have from them). We fasten with the same technique as in the first method, but in a slightly different way (according to the design). In the case of several frames, we must remember that our ribbons will be visible. What's more, they themselves will be the decoration of our frames. They must therefore be of equal length so that the frames hang evenly and that the effect is aesthetically interesting. I drew a dot at the top of the design. It can be a knot (so that you cannot see e.g. the nail head) but also a bead or button. Such a nice hook will definitely present itself with our photos.

By the way, I want to suggest one of my favorite ways of decorating. Namely, I would like to return to the times when addictively what could be created cutouts. Do you remember how it was? It consisted of four or more pieces of paper, it actually cut out anything, developed, and the cutest beauty was ready. The more talented probably created less chaotic designs and were tempted by real works of art! My ability only allowed squares, triangles, ellipses, the top were stars.

Why do I remind you of cutouts. And this is because if we create such a small work of art from colored paper, instead of decorating the frame, we can stick such a cutout to the edges of the frame. We will create something special and beautiful. Naturally, you will need to wrap the excess cutout at the back of the frame, or simply cut it off. Brick effect.

I hope that together, thanks to these few articles, I was able to convince you that you don't have to be an artist or genius to spend special moments together with your child to create something just your own and unique. I also hope that you look more favorably at the kitchen "garbage" and kinder at the stationery store or haberdashery.

The "Play with Imagination" series will be quiet for some time because of my second daughter's birth. Therefore, now I urge you to return to all articles, gathering in yourself to perform those that you were afraid to approach. The autumn season begins, favorable to table work ...
